I always like to do these threads on forums to see how diverse the people in the hobby are. I'll start:

My names Danny, 24 and I am a Fire Protection Engineer. I use CAD software to design fire safety systems for varying uses such as large warehousing, schools and residential buildings. I am also a freelance designer and do everything from graphic design, to technical design even to mobile application interface design.

I have a passion for weaponry and hunting and use my day job skills to help me design and craft slingshots, slingbows, knives, bows etc.

    What about you?

    Great idea, Danny!

My name is Will. I am 31 years old and I am a Journeyman pipefitter. I mainly work in oil refineries, where it is my job to assemble complex piping systems, calculate their coordinates, use cranes and manual rigging to move them into position and then cut and bevel them for welding. I make my living almost entirely with an angle grinder!
I also operate my own business 'Da Beast Custom Fishing Rods' from my home in California. When I am not working, I can usually be found near the water, harassing the local fish. I also do a lot of reading, and a good deal of writing as well.
I enjoy most all forms of weapons, but mostly long-range rifle target shooting, black powder, and sporting clay shotgun shooting. This forum has rekindled my forgotten love for simple weapons and made me see the amazing works of functional art they can be.

Good thread, dannytsg. Nice to learn about the folks I interact with.

Hi, I'm Jason. I'm 41, live in Minnesota, am married, have 2 small dogs, and a cat. I work in telecommunications integrating cell sites in wireless networks. I like being in the wilderness. I enjoy plinking, reading, riding my scooter, hiking, brush cutting, playing tabletop games with friends, military/cultural/economic history, and watching tv/movies with my wife.

Still trying to figure out the ultimate handheld slingshot. I have a lot of work and testing to do. ;) I learn a lot from Jeorg's videos.

Seems that most people prefer the annonimousity of the internet......
Danny, I havn't said as the others, but I liked he idea of this post, as much as I liked that one that Schultz created "showm your country". I'm not the kind of guy who has a social virtual life. I really like to interact with other human beings, and your idea gives a more close aproach to it. I just feel great to see that the other people are real. Felt it when I saw Arturo with a slingshot that was in my hans for weeks, making his thing! I'm starting a future project in my mind, that consists on meeting all good friens that I'm making here. Schultz, Arturo, TokSik, Pipesmoker, Thistle ......in their countrys. (I'm not going to bother you guys, I can afford a hotel and trip:))
    Keep our ideas, man!

    ^I couldn't agree more Brazilviking^

I loved the feeling that this forum had straight from the beginning. When I saw the 'politeness rule' I knew it was perfect. I absolutely despise the rudeness that I see every day, it really makes me lose faith in people at times. But here it is different. Most of the regular posters here feel like friends to me rather than just anonymous faces on the internet. Threads like this and Schultz's 'country' thread are great!
And you are all welcome to visit and stay here any time! We will do some fishing and plenty of shooting!

It's great to know the people behind the scenes!

    Thank you for the idea!

I'm a mechanic originally. Worked as a bike mechanic, a fire extinguisher repairman and few years in water pump maintenance. After these years finished my industrial design master and design manager master. This year I finished my DLA (Doctor of Liberal Arts) my doctoral theme was: Opportunities in Virtual Reality as in Medium - Virtual Reality from the Aspect of a Designer. I spent four years as an assistant lecturer at MOME University, Budapest. As a tutor my main areas were: 3dsMax, Rhino, Corel, Photoshop, Illustrator and presentation/design communication. As a freelancer I'm working on different design fields. My main profile is anatomy and healthcare visualization, furniture design, bicycle. Mainly construction designs. I've been a competitive archer. Started slingshooting in my childhood with my uncle. Also made a few catty design as an entry portfolio for the art university back in 2001. Since 2009 I'm experimenting with 3D printing /direct manufacturing.

Living with my pair in Budapest downtown. I'm lucky, some time ago I cleaned up our basement and since then I can shoot 10 or 20 meters range almost at home.

    Have a nice day mates!

    As stated before, great idea!

I go under the name of Alfred and I'm 16 years old, which means I'll start my first year in (the Swedish version of) high school after the summer. I like to learn stuff, so I'm interested in litterature, physics, chemistry, biology, history and religion. Geography and politics, not that much :) I plan to learn russian in school after the summer.
Me and my father have to vintage tractors (old Swedish models from the 1950's) that we have renovated... That's a hobby we have together.
I have been playing the drums since an age of 8, but I sometime want to learn to play trumpet or harmonica, too. I did some archery a year ago (I have been shooting fro a couple of years) but an elbow damage made me put that aside. I like rock music, brass music, irish pub songs, folk music etc.
I like to build stuff, and I like movies.

    More to come, maybe :)

Great to find someone who works in the police. I did 2 years with GMP based in communications and then moved onto my current role.

    I forgot to add I also have a wife who is 31, 3 step-children and my own daughter (ages 14, 12, 10, 1.5 years)

I also love motorbikes. My current bike is a 1998 Yamaha Fazer 600 and I am also an avid buschcrafter and hunter. I love hunting and fishing and try to get out in the wild as much as possible.

I think i'll join your group Ozzy if you don't mind as all things listed are my interests.

Thanks to everyone else who has contributed. It is always nice to know more about those who contribute here.

This thread is a very nice idea Danny, so here we go:

My name is Jens. I am living in Germany, North Rhine Westphalia. The region is called Sauerland, one of Germans mid-range mountains. I am married and I have two daughters. It may sound like a "female overkill", but I've learned to deal with it ;)

I am working in the financial department of a global automotive supplier. I think that is one of the main drivers for spending my spare time with manual work – just for doing something totally different from the daily work.
Though I have been interested in handicraft work for my life.

I’ve collected my first experiences with building radio controlled ships. Very interesting to build, but sometimes boring to play with, so the next logic consequence was building radio controlled planes. It is a fun to fly and you never run out of work :D
I flew a couple of national championships in the past, but I’ve retired from these kind of competition a few years ago.
I’ve learned as well a lot about how to work with different materials, and about painting, solding, aerodynamics, mechanics…..
Later I figured out how to use CAD programs and started to develop model-planes.

Biking, hiking and running are as well some of my passions.
One or two times a year I sign up for a bike race. It seems that I need some kind of competition from time to time…

Did I forget something…..? Ah yes, Slingshots. In fact I came to slingshooting by my RC-plane hobby. Sometimes we are landing not on our airfield but somewhere in the trees (not me of course, just my collegues ;))
Question: How can we get the plane down to the ground
Answer: Take a slingshot, tie a lead sinker to a fishing rod, shoot it over the plane and pull it down.
Than by looking for a „how to“ I stranded on Theslingshotchannel and this passion begun…

I have been here before, but...

I was a member of the forum for quite while, but had a data crash and lost all my details, so I rejoined, and this is a re-introduction.
I'm a newly married, retired, American ex-pat , currently living in a 500 year old house in Zacatecas, MX. Zacatecas is the capital city of the state of Zacatecas, located in North-Central Mexico. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zacatecas,_Zacatecas.
Slingshots and air rifles are common here because of the relatively high cost of even .22 ammunition, and many people live in rural areas, and have farms, and need something, both for recreation, and pest control.
Luckily, these 2 things have been my hobby since I was a child.
I enjoy making things, including computer and electronic projects, and build slingshots and modify air guns too.
    LIFE IS GOOD !:)

That would be great indeed! And we are quite close to each other, comparing to many other friends in this forum!
But I must practice a lot, otherwise I'll have a lot of embarassment to deal with!
