    Hi Folks,

I know the forum is busy with introduction topics but hope you don't mind this thread... :D

You already seen sneak peek images at the Bandi thread a week ago, and finally it's finished.

    About Vesalius

Wood is simple Acacia. Carved with knife and some power carving equipment. 100°C BLO bath for 15 mins, turpentine and beeswax mix as top coat.

The name Vesalius reflects to my anatomy interests and also the artworks by this famous anatomist of the XVI. century. His artworks are eye catching, precise but still stylish and unique. Forms are not over-detailed and the overall look is well balanced. There's an even distribution of information.

My goal was to carve the frame with a sketchy appearance to depict tension and forces and try to keep balance between function and artistic aspects.

The lanyard solution just fits to my taste. Instead of paracord I used a rough leather stripe soaked with paraffin to reduce forces on my wrist and maintain softness. The joint is a modified version to reduce the twisting forces and keep a fine alignment perpendicular to the frame.

Hope you like it my friends,
    Have a nice day :)
    Tremo

Good to see you Tremo! You can break up the monotony of newb intros anytime you like, especially when displaying a work of art like this. Looks somehow cyborg but still natural.

Beautiful! The curve, the finish, the relief hollows for the palm and even the lanyard attachment method. Outstanding!!!

That matches your muse perfectly. Sinews, tendons, ligaments and bones, I can see them all in this. Makes a natural seem even more organic if thats possible.
Really nice lanyard attachement too, beautiful work!

    Now it´s clear..

    Hey Tremo,

what can I say?- Now I know what you were about!
And yes, you found an outstanding answer to the question.

    A perfect answer!

Give me some time to really ´see´ that beauty.
This takes some time, for it is a four-dimensional
    work of art..

    Chapeau,
    Verbeugung!

I LOVE that artwork and love that you pulled inspiration from it to create the slingshot. It's beautiful!

Very cool what kind of carving tools did you use? Was it chisels or knives or something else? It almost looks like little shovels dug out exactly what you wanted with one smooth easy scoop. I hope there was more work than that involved, otherwise I'll have to crawl into my inferiority hole

I am very impressed! I carved a natural (Groovy) that now I see resembled muscle fibers. I've always liked anatomy drawings too. You made me realize why I like that grooved slingshot so much. Now you have taken that to the next level. Great work and thanks for the insight!
