Today I set up the Chrony to do some band rig testing. I ran a couple of gauges of Latex and some thin cuts of Linatex through. I was trying to find a good rig for my self for shooting from 10 meters out to around 40 yards. Was looking for something about 210-215fps w/3/8" steel and an easy draw. I found a nice combo/ It's a 20 gauge latex cut 1 3/8" x 7/8" x 7 1/4" ( folded over at both ends and loaded on a small Starship dawing a total of 35"s. Very nice.Shot nice and flat up to 75 feet which is all the distance I could get where I was. I recently got some questions from some people regarding problems with their Chronys like-not reading the shots at all or error 2. See if I can make it right. A couple of things you want to do when setting up your Chrony for the first time:

Make sure you have new batteries!

Chronys love light. Put your Chrony on a white sheet or white paper or something white for the reflection

Room light or flourescent bulbs usually don't make it unless right up close. Use a high intense lamp or something bright( big flashlight works) you can keep close to the readers-

The diffusers (those white plastic things)-you don't really need them unless you are outside in very bright light-too much light is just as bad

Keep your Chrony level- helps the readers p/u the ammo as it passes overhead

Use the 4 steel rods that hold up the diffusers as guides to line up your shot so both readers get shot over-that is that "Err-2" you see on the LCD. it means the second reader didn't catch the shot. "Err1" means you missed the first one.

Put a 1/2" piece of Lexan or Plexiglas in front of your LCD. Should be a minimum of 1/2" thick w/ measurements of maybe 4 inches by 4 1/2"s tall. Secure it well too. Believe me you'll thank me for this. No matter how careful you are, you will eventually slam into your LCD and then it's toast-$50 for a new one plus shipping-I know!

Keep the readers clean and shut it off when not in use.

Don't leave it out in the open while you continue shooting especially on a real bright hot day. Could mess up the LCD.

Hope these tips help. It is a great tool to have when you are really serious about shooting or just recording speeds on objects. ( I did try to throw a fastball through to see what i could get).I thought I had a good arm.Put it this way, I have a ton of respect for anyone who can throw a 90 mile an hour fastball. Try it you'll see! Flatband

Thanks for the tips. I have an old Oehler-Research chrony. I had it for years and use it a lot for firearm reload development but I have yet to fling a slingshot pellet across it, as I am a newly rekindled, slingshot devotee. I have shot a lot of arrows over it though. I have only recently acquired a selection of Thera-band and I love it. I can see how the chrony would help greatly in developing a band set that suits my draw length and shooting style. Thanks.

Thanks KYL! Hey Ryan, when you are ready to buy, stick with the main brand namely "Chrony" F-1. It's the most popular and it's good. Money wise ,should be between $85 and $100. Real good tool to have! Flatband
