Am I going to have issues with putting polyurethane on a slingshot that has been soaked in linseed oil? I'm just worried that it might not adhere or dry properly because the wood has been treated with oil.

"non impediti ratione cogitationis"

I don't know anything about finishing (ignorance and no experience ever!!), but my case as is it "close" to "poly or not to poly" I want to ask (excuse me intrusion in your thread) SuperGlue (CA) over dry varnish ... works? ... I believe that in both cases you have "oiled" surfaces = similarities ...

You can varnish a ss that has been treated with linssed oil, i do to all my ss. But you have to make sure it has a dry and clean surface.

To clean the surface from any oil residue just sand it again with your last grit.

To check that the surface has properly dried just look at the sandpaper you used if it is really oily then it not ready, if it is dusty it is ready.

Another way to check is to leave it on a adsorbing surface ( kitchen paper, towel, I use an old white t-shirt) over night if it leaves a stain it is not ready

I hope this helps
@Saderath thanks !!! ... that are very useful tips !!! here the weather is dry and template (a semi desert one) , so I will check it with that kitchen absorbing paper this night ...
