Hello guys. I am shooting OTT 3/8 steel ammo. My set up is TB Gold non tapered 5/8 inch , length 7.25 from pouch to fork. I tried many different lengths and this is what I like best. I have young kids so we shoot 10 mm plastic beads (safety issues + wife's reccomendation ). I was getting such a bad hand slap with TB Gold. My kids shoot TB Red but I didn't like it. So I just bough TB Blue. I am planing to cut 5/8 bands (cause I like that width basically). How do I know what length to cut my bands to? Just go with the same as TBGold? I will be using the TB blue for 10 mm plastic beads and maybe 1/4 inch steel ammo. Thanks!

For amazing handflaps - try tubes, and bind them with cable ties lol, you will be surprised bout the pain

The reason you are getting horrible handslap is due to the light ammo. The theraband gold would hardly notice the plastic 10mm ammo you are using so its hardly using any force to expel the plastic 10mm. what I'm saying is you are using over powered bands for the ammo, a slower band (Therband Blue should have less handslap with the plastic 10mm) would help the handslap A LOT.

I would cut it straight also, this slows down the bands a bit as well.

Tb blue is Not slower than Gold, my experience Shows its a little faster, because its lighter. Its Inka weaker, the Band speed without ammo is nrarly the Same for all colours, they are all Made of the Dame Material. Handslaps Show that ur ammo is to light, so go for Tb blue ore thin stripes of Tb Gold. But it doesnt help if u use a Full Tb blue per side thats goin to have the same effect as ur old Bands. Best way would be to mrasure the Weight of ur ammo, then make Bands fitting for it.

Agreed, making a bandset for the ammo is best. If you only have a certain type of rubber to use, dont bother buying more. Use what you have and make it work. You can make the bandset longer in length to compensate for the lighter ammo.

How about good old cheap office rubber bands. Easy draw for the kids and you could chain them to fine tune the power to suit your ammo.
Tell you wife we use to play sling shoot tag as kids. Acorns were the ammo. And yes, I still have two eyeballs, though I'm surprised............Bolo tag was also a summer long favourite. That will make target shooting look like crocheting. Ha Ha Ha

Thanks guys! Tysonspapa, I actually learned about real pain with 3/8 ammo and TB Yellow tubes on my ss. Boy, that hurts! brainleak and Tysonpapa, you are absolutely right! I actually cut my TB Blue 5/8 non tapered and shot a bunch of the plastic beads, minimal handslap! I will upgrade the kids to it! Bert the Welder, I was actually looking at that with rubber bands chains...but I am pleased with the TB Blue...I kind of told my wife the same you said...I guess she is much of a big city/indoor kind of girl...but she will have to get over it...Thanks all for answering my question.

You could use a glove you know. I was making a slingshot with Theratube and while testing it, I was wearing a pair of latex gloves. The handslaps weren't bad at all! I bet kids like fancy gloves, especially those which have fancy straps on them.

So double TB Blue 5/8 non tapered did the trick. Lots of power for my 10mm plastic beads and 1/4 inch steel ammo...and minimal hand slap...kids like single TB blue.

The issue with having moderately strengthed bands and using a virtually weightless ammo, its like equivalent to dry firing every single shot. This is no bueno. By doing this, you are shortening your band life by at least 10x. I have this problem as well. I use light glass marbles and pretty moderate bands and my band life is bad by like 60 shots a set.

Once you start using heavier weighted ammo, the hand slaps should diminish.
