    Hi everybody!

Veneer offers great opportunities, "micarta", selfmade multiplex a.s.o.
The hardest part about it WERE the screw clamps.
WERE- that tennis elbow urged me to find a better way..

Once an idea is on it´s way, there´s no way back!- It must come out:

    Air Power

The power source I will use from now on is
air pressure. rd. 400cm² times 2,6 kg (or 40psi)
delivers a solid force of one ton (1040kg) :)

    - with just a few pumps (if I don´t use the compressor..)

    micarta, here we come! :)

How do you make micarta slings? I find them very interesting and would like to try it, if it's a feasible option for me, however I've got no idea how they are made or what material is used to laminate them

    Improvements

To prevent that hot water bag from making blisters,
    I built two shaped supports.
The contraption now is ready to be used, even five or six
laminations at a time are no problem..

I just wonder now how much pressure will be too much for epoxi..
(wood glue can take a lot, though..)

    Now you got me!

    Hey Tilia!,

it´s impossible you knew that the name you called me
used to be my nickname in school!
My wife used it today, too.. After years!

Just when she saw me with that hot water bag..

    Thanks for the commendation! :)

I´m proud a bit!.. This thing will ease making custom
veneer boardcuts a LOT!- and I will take this 3D later..

    Greetings,

    Be

micarta is made from paper and epoxy..

But I think woodglue an any kind of veneer or
polyester and any fabric, just any good glue
    and suitable fibre will do..

Here at my place they sell crude aquarell-paper with
    rose bloom leaves..

.. anywhere in that pile of particle board pieces,
could be one lamination between each two boards..

I've thought about using a press (once I get to Omaha, of course) to make 'micarta' out of epoxy and cotton cloth... I suspect it would have a 'carbon fiber' look.

What do you use to keep the finished micarta from sticking to the press plates, sheets of acetate? Wax paper? Magic dust? Neat device, antithesis of the vacuum table. I like to make jigs and special devices too. Makes life interesting.

BeMacGyver! Nice work on that press. What a great idea. It reminds me of the same pneumatic bags the fire department uses around here to help lift vehicles off of people, etc. A lot of power/pressure to be had. Nicely done Be! I only wish I had that kind of creativity and skill to carry it out.
