I was so impressed with Ghosth's advice about improving aiming and shooting that I hope he won't take it amiss if I start a new thread and quote him in full.

"I could be way wrong but I think there are a couple of key points to achieving this.

A Find a slingshot, rubber combo that gives you good repeatability.

B Don't shoot anything else, for at least a month. Truly master whichever one you choose.

C Start with nice large targets at close range. When you can smack that pop can 3 times out of 3 try's then it maybe time to extend the range a bit. I'd start about 15' or 5m. Yes its twice as hard at 10m than it was at 5.

Practice for a short time a couple of times a day. Early morning before work, lunch, after work, just before bed, whatever you can fit in.

D Track your results. Shoot 10 shots each time you pick up your slingshot, note how many hits. 0 for misses, H for solid hits, G for graze. When you can get 8 good hits, a graze and a miss out of 10 shots several times in a row, then it is probably time to add to distance and start over. If you lose your confidence because you have not shot for 2-3 days, warmup by starting short until your hitting, then step back. It is mostly I think a matter of confidence, remembering what the perfect sight picture looked like, hold point, release.

E keep your ammo consistent, if your going to use marbles, shoot JUST marbles. Or steel balls, or lead or whatever. Ideally you have a good catch box setup and recycle all your ammo.

I think if you go about it slightly methodically for a month, you will surprise yourself.

Of course this is all very easy to say. But seeing others do it we "know" it can be done.
What is left is using a methodical approach, and discipline.

(Blush) Take it amiss, absolutely not, run with it! But I want to see results! :)

(ps, its much easier to say than do, my shooting has improved, but I am far from what some people around here post)

So I have set myself this challenge for a month.

My target is a 5cm circle at 5 metres. Catapult is a steel Pocket Thunder with double banded 1745 tubes. Ammo is 16mm glass marbles.

My first two lots of ten shots were zero hits, two grazes and eighteen misses with the biggest miss 13cm from the middle of target.

I'll let you know how I get on in a month. Meanwhile if any newbies want to try it would you post your catapult, your ammo, your target, your starting distance and starting number of hits grazes and misses out of 10 or 20 and then feed back in a month?

The original thread: "bottle top at 17 metres" is full of great stuff

    Gosh Ghosth that was fast.

I thought I would easily have time to finish.

So there you have it. But results are needed!

    Ok next tip

Save your cans, bottles, food containers.

Paper is DULL, paper is BORING!

But a pop can when hit by rock, steel, marble, lead shot goes CLANGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!

Which makes positive feedback for your body work better, sub conscious goes "Woooooaahhh, that was cool! Me LIKE, me do AGAIN!

Same for plastic getting knocked to slivers and shards.

Give it a try :) Shoot every day, make it FUN!

To Arturo from a happy shooter

Five bulls eyes in a row, a similar grouping but over a corner of the bull. I was ten years old again.

    NOW your cooking!

See? You actually had the skill when you posted the groups.

    What you needed was CONFIDENCE!

Couple of coke can hits fixes that right up.

Step back, keep out of his way and watch him go folks! Man I love it when it works.

And remember, confidence is VITAL! If you lose it, shorten the range, make big and bold the target till you get it back.

    Thanks for all the encouragement.

I'd better sign off for a while. Sometimes I even know I'm going to hit before I draw: so exciting.

    A perfect head shot!

You will only count 4 hits as one was a Robin Hood.

    Beginning week 4

Larger 7cm target at 5m. Ammo is 10x16mm glass marbles.

Results for 2 sets of 10:
6 Hits, 4 Grazes, 10 Misses. 9/10 ammo retrieved. No tree hits.

New tubes not yet "broken in." Last set finally snapped at pouch. I tried some weaker bands but they wouldn't pierce cardboard at 5m.

    One more week to go.
