Just to show I haven't been entirely idle whilst languishing with flu here are some of the bits for a starship that has been ordered. :)

You should really do Filmprops for something like Pirates of The Caribbean etc.!

looks fantastic so far Ruthie, I'm sure it will be mind blowing when finished!

Your work is unlike any I have seen anywhere. I love the unique aesthetic you have.

What kind of wood is that made of? I don't know anything about the trees you have native to Spain.

Every time you post pics of your creations I get inspired to get back into some carving. Maybe my poor lonely chisels will see the light again for the Christmas trade...
    Thanks for showing this.

    Thank you :)

The wood for this one is poplar. Unfortunately Spain is not a good place for carving woods and living in the back of beyond doesn't help. I was lucky enough to be able to get several planks of poplar and oak from a second hand shop but they wont last for ever. I've a bit of beech left which is a good all rounder for construction and carving.
Of course the classic woods here are olive and almond...but they are principally turners' woods not carvers'. The figuring is so strong that detail carving doesn't really show well. Fruit woods of course are great when one can get them. Someone has just given me a large log of Holm Oak but at first glance it's way too far gone....but the smaller branch looks like it could be feasible.

Hope you get back to carving...some slingshots maybe ? :)

Ruthie Sparrow! It looks like a pirate slingy, prolly more deadly than a single shot pistol of long ago, more accurate to boot!
    Great job Ruthie, as always.

Thank you :) I've been shooting it like mad today and am just blown away by the power from just one layer of tapered Linatex. The forks are 14" in front of the pistol grip and I am drawing it to half butterfly and 10mm hexnuts go through both sides of a steel dogfood can like it was paper.

I'm with Dolo - it reminds me of an old blunderbuss - very cool creation.
