Hi, after have realized about 10 ss bands i'm thinking that maybe build some bands without pouch can improve SS performance.<br>I explain better: the goal is to build a unique bands (that should be attached only at forkside). Is like a normal SS but insteat the pouch (in leather) ther are the bands! <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" longdesc="15"><br>I say this coz normal a pouch weight 3-4g, and if u launch a 3,6 - 7,06g steel ball this pouch weight can do a big difference in the speed!<br><br>Before start testing, does anyone can tell me something bout it?<br>Thank u <br>Ottavio

I think there was guy from china on the forum who was shooting without pouch.<br>I already try that and, believe me, you got to get used to it.<br>My marbles were flying every where but not often on the target. I always had a problem at the release, don' t know what... I stop trying it when a marble came back in direction of my face <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_pale.gif" alt="pale" longdesc="26"><br>You know, like in the melon slingshot on youtube.

I believe that it is more difficult to attain a smooth release ...

  5. Rubber does want to grip. I just always went with the thought that if it worked we wouldn't have pouches on slingshots. Not even "dollar store" slingshots lack a pouch, and if the things worked without one they'd try to sell it.

Well you can optimize your pouch for weight. My weighs 0.9g and it was 2mm cowhide.<br>Or buy stronger leather like kangaroo or goat, those things weigh next to nothing for what they can handle.<br>Using thera band as a pouch will damage it really fast.

I tried that, a failure. A clean release is very hard. Maybe you can get used to it if you practice enough, but it felt so weird that I stopped the tests after a few attempts.

I'm not sure what leather it is but many good SS shooters will recommend this <br><a href="http://www.simple-shot.com/products/supersure" class="postlink" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.simple-shot.com/products/supersure</a>

I tried it with a BB shooting sling bow to maximize the speed of the band set, any ways some how the BB got stuck in between the bands (you know how rubber has a tendency to bind to its self) and when the bands stopped after passing the fork they shot the bb back at me leaving a sizable welt on my chin, so be careful, i think this just happened because the BB was so light it didn't fly off the band set before the bands recoiled.

yeah, seems to be very dangerous a "not pouch" version... so the ideal is use a very light and strong pouch (cow, cougar, etc..) and "to be sure" add another band x side (so we let the pouch weight).

Cougar? Really? <br>Cow hide is not the best material if you consider strenth to weight ratio, here's something I found on Wikipedia on Kangaroo leather:<br>"Kangaroo leather is lighter and stronger than the hide of a cow or goat. It has 10 times the tensile strength of cowhide and is 50% stronger than goatskin."

Once tried shooting with no pouch and no frame, a just used one strip of rubber, and held both ends of it in my hand. I flipped my hand down after releasing the shot.<br>Worked ok but not recommended as it is quite dangerous. Shot may hit your hand so don't try it!
