We have Butterfly and now we have SUPERFLY! That is shooting Butterfly style using a big Starship! A few intrepid souls have played around a few times with this but I am really serious about it. I have alwyas loved Wrist Braced Slingshots-with Big Starships being a favorite. I have been experimenting with this style for around a month and let me tell you it has some promise! We always wanted more speed but through many tests by many people,we have always come up short regarding band life. You can get them to shoot at over 500fps but they last like 10 shots. Some of the Butterfly guys have gotten maybe 50 or so shots out of a set doing that kind of speed which ain't too bad at all! The secret is in the elongation of the bands. With a regular short set and draw ( 8 inch set-34 inch draw as an example),they need a big taper and the stress to get that speed is enormous so they break real fast. The regular Butterfly sets are longer(11-12inch set-63 inch draw as an example) with a more graduated taper so they last longer. On a Superfly set-up( 14-16 inch set-83 inch draw as an example) they should last even longer with some really nice speed. Why all the speed? Basically we all want better on everything we do and speed is better. A flatter shot at long distance ( less raising up to compensate) lees interference from wind plus it is just a real lot of fun! I'm just getting started with this madness ( I can't help myself!) but will keep you guys posted on any progress. Right now I'm just getting comfortable shooting like this and. Here's a picture of a new Interstellar Class Superfly Starship that draws around 84 inches using Superfly style!!! She's bumped out to around a 25" extension-COOL BABY!!!! Gary is crazy!!!!!! I love it! Gary, no problem, moved your topic.

Great starship! I have done the same with the big roller based frame, a "reversed starship" really. As you know I can't have wrist braced starships here in Germany, so a forward extension is a no-no (it would turn in your hand without a wrist brace).

Let us know what the chrony says!

Thanks Bud! Oh yeah, I remember that one"Reversed Starship"-so cool! God, if you were able to have Starships, imagine the stuff you would come up with? I mean I have a decent imagination but you? Your imagination and inventiveness is limitless!!! Flatband

Joerg needs to have a nice week or two in a non-restricted country to do some serious wrist brace inventing

    that is awesome.
it inspires me to want to convert a piece of my wheelchair into a starship.
my wheelchair is my computer chair. i don't actually need a wheelchair. (it was a garbage score)
I should take a pic to show you so you could help me figure out how to make it work.

Gary, we can spend the bail money for ammo and targets - starships are legal in Austria, just not in Germany.

I like the idea. It sounds, well, super fly. I have a commercial star-ship. Maybe I'll make some Superfly bands for it?

bj000, I also have an old wheel chair in my junk pile. Post or PM a picture of it and I'll help come up with a plan.

When my wife saw me trying to shoot Butterfly style, she asked what I was doing. I told her about the Butterfly style. She laughed and said it looked more like "Spread-Eagle" style to her. HA!

Some people use the term "Albatross" - not so far from spread eagle...
