I have had a few accidents over the years of using homemade slingshots.
Most of them were the bands breaking a smacking me in the face. (ouch) I have also shot at a thick wooden board with a big marble and it came back at me and hit me in the head before it didn't hurt but it scared the crap out of me.

Have you or someone else had an accident with slingshots?

I had an accident while using a slingshot, but I changed by undies and I haven't had the same problem since. Whether I will again or not Depends...

There have been plenty of accidents with slingshots noted in this forum. I would recommend reading any threads that talk about shooting techniques and even accidents (you can use the search function in the upper left of the screen to search for these threads). They are not uncommon, but we all try to avoid them by learning as much about how to shoot, the proper use of materials, how to build a good slingshot, etc. Most of us would also recommend wearing safety glasses at a minimum when you shoot to protect your eyes (safety glasses should always be rated ANSI Z87.1 or ANSI Z87.1+) and if necessary, a glove to protect your hand. I have a few scrapes and scratches on my hand from shooting my slingshots, it happens, but I try to avoid it as much as possible.

mostly fork hits and ricochets. Wear eye protection for certain and possibly a heavy work glove on your fork hand. Know what's behind your target before shooting. Test your forks and bands before you shoot them. Don't shoot at hard surfaces. Just start practicing and you should pick things up pretty quick. Simpleshot/Flippinout, pfshooter, charles morgan, and bill hays all have good vidoes on youtube to help you get started.

i did have some richochetes with my old catchbox but the only one coming at me i actually catched. i have no idea how but i heard it hit the box and the next moment it was in my hand which i held in front of my face. i gues there is a bit of ninja blood inside me

I hit my own hand where the thumb is attached two times. Still don't know why it happened. Skin was a bit damaged and it hurt a lot but cooling it straight away meant it was gone the next day. I am using Nuts as Ammo.

Same with 10mm steel and the pointer, thankfully not drawn out to the maximum, meaning my finger still works.

If you haven't seen this one before, it's worth a watch to learn about the danger of ricochets. This guy is firing a .50 caliber rifle at a steel plate. It comes right back at him and hits him in the head, and he walks away. You can hear the shot coming back and it hits the ground before it jumps up and hits him. Just a good reminder about using the proper target/backing no matter what you're shooting:

to avoid accidents always shoot 100% pervaded on what you are doing, being sure of all aspects involved, use eye protection, backstops, verify rubber tears, solid attachments and face a bit diagonal to target, never try to shoot the most challenging (advanced or difficult) way the first time, you must get used step by step, don't be so confident with a good start ...

I have hit my hand twize in the exact same place and its with the same slingshot, havent shot it sinse the second time it got me (almost a year ago).

awwww that must hurt a lot its just painful just to watch. Damn that must be painful. How did you hit your hand anyways? Joerg is always saying in his videos to use the flip method.

aww ouch ouch.... i never knew ping pong balls are soooo painful.

I tried to fire a ping pong ball out of my slingshot and it hit me right in the hand and it was painful. Not a good idea. Don't try this at home.

Hey Ryan, it shoots really great, i can use a bit stronger bands on this slingshot <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" longdesc="2"> normally i use 8 cm TB gold (wide) but on this i use 9 cm, and they are a bit shorter so its a bit more powerfull that my other shlingshots because of the low fork <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" longdesc="2"><br>ps. there is no chance for hitting your hand, even if you dont flip it <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" longdesc="15">

For myself - I never injured myself. Forkhits, handslaps - the usual. Even with low forks no problems at all and I hope it stays that way.
