Hi Guys,
i have already 6 RTS shots so far

two with 8mm

one with 13mm

one with 20mm

two with 25mm steel.

only one hit me. I have luck with the other 5

when you consider how many shots I've taken, it is not much. and i have to say 4 of them was with crazy bands. (8mm was with targetbands)

The two 25mm backfire shots are the most dangerous and
powerfull back shots i had. i have luck, nothing happened to me and i
have good recordings as well, thats just fine.

this is why i want to show you how it looks if a 100+ Joule shot came back to you!

My luck was that i shoot sideway with flip Style so the ball went sideways past me and hit the wall behind me.

i hope you enjoy this video

I had one shooting a frameless slingshot (basically a stick shot without the stick) it flew by my eyes and destroyed a brand new window screen and chiped the brand new window behind. scary...

I guess stick shots (if I understand it correctly) is more prone to this kind of rts. It's because the bands don't open I think.

Anybody can translate what Tobias wrote in German?

I also had a few RTS shots with the 25mm balls. Two of them actually hit me, one in the back (big bruise) and one on the first joint of my left middle finger. Both actually in Tobias's shooting cellar!

The hit on the finger split the skin and finished the shooting evening for me... I needed a bandage and a spoon to immobilize the finger.

Both RTS shots happened with a pouch that was actually a little to small for the 25ers. I don't know if that was the reason or no.

Every time this happens, I have to go back to my safety shooters for a few hundred shots. Then I regain faith.

    Hallo Tobias,
heisst das, daß das verdrehen der Bänder bei grösseren Kugeln nicht so optimal ist.
Dadurch entsteht doch der Drall, richtig?
@Jörg
Jörg, hattest du nicht auch noch einen Durchschuss zwischen Daumen und Zeigefinger?
War in einem deiner Videos zu sehen.

Hello Tobias,
does it mean, that isn´t the best way to shoot with twisted bands and large ammo?
With twisted bands you get this spin, is it right?

@Jörg
Jörg, didn´t you have also a bad hit between your thumb and forefinger?
I saw it in one vid.

Jörg, i remeber your RTS shots, but i have seen only one by the other one i was somewere outside. It must have hurt so bad but you take it easy - Like a Boss.

after my RTS i ask myself why i dont use my Saftey shooter for shots like this, and i notice that i forget to wear my hand gloves...

Now i can say one thing for sure, if someone shoot crazy strong bands, you should think about safty! because if something happend it will be very bad for you.

if something went wrong with targetbands it´s also bad but not so badass bad

The rooftop hit wasn't RTS, I was not paying attention and held the "distance lever" too high - the top of my hand was in the line of fire.

The rooftop shooter is history now, one of the few contraptions of mine that I have dismantled.

I have experienced such a shot with my bullpup in the early stages of testing. I didnt really realise what happened and why the ball didnt fly forward before I saw a spherical dent in the front of the Bullpup. That was scary! I found that the reason was that the pouch was very much too big for the little marbles. Fixed!

It is more dangerous than it seems, 80 ft-lb headshot KILLS no matter if you are wearing safety glasses or not, so the warning in this video should be empathized DON'T DO THIS NEVER !!! ...

At first, everytime i see this, i honestly think "When will the first Shooter get a really serious injury?" You can find those cases in other "Hobbys" too...hunting-accidents, a guy on a katana-forum i visited years ago died because he met with a friend from that forum and they did cutting tests on bamboo, the sword slipped from the hands of his mate and impaled him in the stomache...no chance.
So since Slingshooting is becomming more and more popular a really bad accident is a matter of time and math. I also have very bad feelings about all those "metal-casting-in-your-backyard" videos. Especially since all this stuff is on youtube and it creates a feeling that everybody can do it...just a few small mistaked that come together and it may result in a disaster...casting and shootingwise.
Taking some bruises "manly" is one thing...but a 17 year old that does not know better, loosing an eye because aluminum exploded in his mold is something that i´m really worried about.
Just because those things are unneccessary! (For those who might argue you are also getting in danger when you cross the street infront of your house)

On the other hand i´m very curious what "exactly" happens. Also to prevent injuries. So if you found a more or less "reliable" way to create RTS shoots with 25mm i think a save setup (without a shooter and a roperelease somehow) and a very good highspeedcamera to track what happens would be so awesome. And it would be a big achievement for the slingshotsport imo. More importend then how to squeeze .5% more power out of this ot that kind of bands.

Just my 2 Cents

my take on RTS's is a bad release (more probably at high pull force to occur), the ammo slips out the pouch before it should be, (that is when the rubber stops acceleration and starts free flight, ammo will be close to the pouch but in front) in this case the suddenly "unloaded" rubber will speed up surpassing the ammo (here ammo is now behind the pouch), so there is a chance that ammo can meet exactly the pouch in front of the fork and with its momentum do a backfire maybe with more than 50% of it's initial power. Sometimes this early slipping or "unloading" appears to be as a ugly flier with much less speed than expected ... with a bad release and inappropriate pouch is matter of time to receive an RTS ...
Cheers
Arturo
