Hey guys, I don't know why I didn't think to ask this before, but have any of you been to Giebelstadt? My family name is von Zobel, and that's where my ancestral home is. I've only seen pictures, but I'd love to hear what it is like from someone who has been there.

That little town is close to Würzburg, in fact only about 100 miles from where I live. 100 miles means less than an hour in the car (no speed limit in Germany ).

Haven't been to Giebelstadt, but several times to Würzburg. The general area is really nice. You should come and visit, then join me in Burgkunstadt for some slingshot fun!

I wish I could! Unfortunately, I don't have any disposable income right now. Maybe someday. The von Zobel Schloss has stood since about 1300, so I'm sure it will last a while longer. And I doubt you will be quitting slingshots any time soon.

I am a member of the www.advrider.com motorcycle touring forum. It has almost 225.000 members from all over the world who like nothing better than taking long trips with their motorcycles, taking pictures and posting and reading ride reports ( I have done a few of those myself, a ride through the Alps among them. My username is the same as in here).

If you post a nicely worded request in the European regional forum with a little background and an explanation it is entirely possible that a member is willing to ride to Giebelstadt and take some pictures for you. Motorcyclists are always looking for a good excuse to hop on their bikes and take a ride :) Unfortunately I am a bitt too busy at the moment and if I do ride it is usually south, through the Alps.
