Beautiful! It kinda looks like the hide of a spiny anteater, well tanned and oiled.

you will not believe it, no tan nor oil ! only sanded and hand polished with a soft cloth, that's the magic of amber, always ready to shine and soft as silk !
    Cheers

I do believe it- you mentioned the amber property of the wood before. And when carefully polished and buffed, natural amber looks like... well, what your little beauty looks like!

Olive wood also has amber properties and I've used it before in decorative work. It's very dark and fine grained but needs nothing to make it shine beyond patience.

yes I love olive for the same, this one is most amber extreme (hard, strong and dense) ! the dark dots pattern are the roots of spines/leafs, a dinosaur era tree lol !

Speaking of dinosaur trees, there is a Ginko Biloba tree growing near my home. I haven't made a SS from it but I did cut a fork from it and sent it to my trade partner so he could have fun with it. I may attack that tree again soon after I finish doing something with the Sycamore root I harvested today and make a Jurassic Slingshot as well...
