till now, i only made slingshots out of natural forks and multiplex, but i'm planning to make them out of selfmade paper micarta.

y'know with this thick construction paper and resin/hardener. it's cheap and allows me to use every color combination i want for my slingshot.

did someone try that yet? what strength will it have? will a slingshot made out of it break on forkhits? how thick does a fork have to be for shooting 20mm lead/steel balls with tbg?

sorry for so many questions.

i have seen some, one made by bill hayes and some others, i think it would work great, and if you are scared you could put fiberglass layers inbetween that stuff is really tuff

I saw people on youtube making knives handles that way, even with old clothes. I think it will be ok for a slingshot too. About the fork hits i guess you could repare it easily if it happens.
Anyway, good luck with that project man.

i just don't want flying pieces into my face. if a slingshot gettin' just damaged, i'll make better one. people also make knive handles out of normal wood. powerful slingshots are a different story.

That' s true about the flying pieces but i think micarta wont burst in small pieces. I never used it so i can' t be affirmative about that. You could make a piece of micarta to shoot at with a slingshot and see the results.

I made a couple small slingshots out of some linen micarta (professionally made) that I had left over from making knife handles. They were only .25" (6.35mm) thick, so I just used light Chinese style tubes on them. I still have one, but I got a fork hit on the smaller of the two and broke one of the forks off. It actually broke very much like wood breaks along the grain, even though it's a laminate. I'd say with your homemade paper micarta for TBG you'd probably want to go with the same thickness as you might with regular wood or multiplex, maybe 18mm or so for a simple "board cut" style. How (or if) it might break with a fork hit I can't say. It will depend on the strength of the resin you use.

  10. Good epoxy can handle in the 3000 psi range or more so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I was thinking about the micarta as well some time ago and found
this turorial. Inspiration for others who never heard about micarta.

G10 is hard to work with. It's very dense and also unpleasant, because of the dust. That's what I read

I have made several from paper micarta and fork hits WILL break them. I suggest using either a core of another material, like mulitplex, or use the paper as a core. It is not strong enough on its own, IMO, for a slingshot. Of course, I was working with 1/2" thickness, so if you went up to 3/4" or 7/8" it could be a different story.
