My Dad is 72, he's getting old and whilst he's still quite active, his knees give him trouble. He walks OK, but has had surgery/operations on his knees in the past, so when he sits down now, he has trouble getting back up! I previously gave him a 'slingshot' for his birthday, he appreciated the wood & effort, craftmanship etc. but wasn't interested in 'slingshots' So he asked me to make him something practical - a stick to help him stand up! He didn't want an old man's cane, (a boring broomstick!) - just a good sturdy stick with character, and a good grip to hoist himself up So here it is... I kept it with character, nice and knobbly, with some of the natural bark and markings/knots left in. It had a natural thumb fork, so I kept it and shaped it a little. Has a nice grip in the palm and thumb Finished as usual with yacht varnish - high gloss! Hope he likes it!
