Hello,

I'm Chuck, I'm retired, and am an amateur woodworker and home shop machinist. I grew up building slingshots then quit when I became a working stiff. In recent years I've been building telescopes, model engines, and even a PCP airgun. Recently I've regained an interested in slingshots and have been following Joerg's youtube videos.

I'm currently trying different designs to find the one I like best and want to focus more on really learning to shoot. I find the Moorhammer design to be very elegant and attractive, but am wondering if there is a practical reason for the fork to be so wide. Wouldn't 3.5 inches be plenty?

Thx... Chuck

Welcome! The moorhammer has wide forks so there is enough room for the projectile to go through and not hit the center. If they were closer, the design would need a deeper cup which means higher forks. Thats my instant theory
