How about a slingshot powered striker, revolver shotgun ?....

A 4 inch barrel, choked for like 1 meter high spread, and 3 meter wide spread at 5 meters, manual rotation, and hinged plate securing the shotgun shells for firing and unloading/reloading.

I think the engineering would be relatively simple, and as a crowd control weapon; I'd get out of the way real fast.
Even if they were firing bean bag shot.

It has probably been done before with real bullets; but it came to mind sitting on my balcony awaiting to shoot pests over the dawn to 8 am time frame, drinking coffee.

    Cheers

Holly hell batman, you could use all sorts of non lethal shot, from pepper balls, to skin irritants, to small paint balls to identify the mischief makers latter, the ideas are endless; and the range could be to what, about 25 to 30 meters. A nice rock throwing avoiding distance I think.
Dam, might design and make one myself, all that is really needed is guide rails for the striker pin to always hit the base of the round. At least here in thailand the main law is do not get caught, or be prepared to pay your way out of it; and having extended family in very high places helps alot.

Given the propelling load in the rounds you speak of, I'm not entirely sure a wooden structure would hold up to the internal pressures generated by trying to contain and direct an explosive force from 300+ grains of gunpowder.

Probably best to make capsaicin marker balls, and pre-load like Jorge's gatling gun.

I was not speaking of wooden, but all steel construction, from slingshot frame, to forks which would need to be strong to overcome recoil, and steel revolver chamber lathed out to accept shotgun shells, then a barrel about 6 inches long, choked for a 1 meter high spread at like 15 meters and a 3 to 4 meter wide spread at the same range. It would be heavy yes, but doable, I think so, yes.
