Hi
I am new in this forum though i have been following jörg´s blog for a long time now.
At this point of time i have already created three slingshots. I just want to share them with you and hope for Inspiration or critics.
The Slingshot in the middle was my first slingshot though it was the most work to do. The other ones are both natural forks.
This one is made out of a yew tree (Eibe). i was really suprised when i recognized the Grain .
[IMG] [IMG]
Thats the only laminated fork i have. i secured it with a wooden stick that goes right through the middle.
[IMG][IMG]
The last one is made from a hazelnut tree which is pretty soft and light wood. The wood looked really boring so i decided to use ink.

None of these have lacquer on them, theyre finished with bees wax and then polished because i prefer the natural wood touch. Though they are waterproof (enough for my use).
By the way, i have no (good) bands attached because i dont have thera band yet. Maybe you could give me a tip which one i should use.

That was it - i hope you enyojed it!

That looks really good. The one in the middle is the coolest, I think

The green inked natural is very appealing. As long as they are waxed to be somewhat protected, that's good enough. Too much surface finish really does ruin the feel.

Nice slingshots. Good work. I like the ink.

I think the most peope would recommend Thera Band Gold.

Pure latex is better than theraband gold, nicer action, IMO

Lars, I don't know where at in Germany to buy latex.

I've gotten pure latex from Nathan Masters, of FlippinOut, a supplier and also one of our Channel forum members. I know that he ships internationally and is very reliable. I've never had any problems. No complaints at all. Just look under products to find what you're looking for. Hope this helps.

    JAH,

Wow, those three are nice! And that yew is as beautiful as any that I have seen carved by experienced slingshot makers. The finish is lovely. I don't think you need anything else other than the wax and buffing that you've already treated them to.

As for which, TBG or pure latex? Choose what you like for your purpose and convenience.

Bill Hays (a Texas forum member) made a video that compares many of the more popular elastics folks generally use. If you watch toward the end of his video (start at 6:10) he talks about TBG. He also covers .03 flat latex target bands (start at 2:10).

This might help you decide what you want or need. The key is a good pouch and matching ammo with correct band strength. Width, tapering, shooting style and everything else seems more like personal preferences to me.
