I also started like this, shooting small stones against a painted box with something harder behind it - perfect when you're waiting for your first balls :)
After 1 1/2 years shooting now I hate it when my cats are of course hanging arround behind my catchbox then when I'm shooting with bigger balls... Now i have a big bag of small stones standing near my shooting range. Everytime a cat is looking for steelballs, i throw a few stones away so the cat follows them and is far away enoug for one safety shot :D

    Greetings, Haecksler!

I've has success with a folded up beach towel in a box, nothing has gotten through yet. Had a couple marble explosions though. Your design has inspired me to make mine better, thanks.

one problem is that it's pretty small so I had missed some steel balls I will try to make a bigger one with a biggger box

I was just thinking that I need to make me one 4 times the size lol.
I'm poor shot, but still have tons of fun when shoot.
Right now I shoot at beach towel and marbles just drop on the floor.
Good job on the catch box.

I think the size is ok mate, don' t change it. If you still missing the target sometimes, i suggest to shoot from a shorter distance for a while until you nail it every shot. Add 1 meter to the distance and so on. You won' t have that problem with your 9.5 mm steel anymore. I guess...
This was my first ammo catcher:

Most of the time, simple is the most effective ;)
Very nice idea for that catchbox! Well done mate!!
    PS: Nice slinggy.
