OK - I only had a saw to cut it out, a knife to whittle it down and automotive foam sanding blocks to smooth it out. Then I treated it over an open flame for an hour or so wiping the char off often with a clean rag. I used crape myrtle because that is what I had available but the color came out nice (at least I think so) from treating it over the fire so I have not stained it.

It came out smoother than it looks. I know it doesn't look amazing like so many I have seen on here but I like it a lot and it shoots really nice. All I had around the house was tube rubber but I am ordering Flat Band for it.
Cheers!
i really like the look of it. it has its own character. looks a bit like it just came out of a polygon graphic computergame.

once again someone has proven, there's no need of much more than a knife to build a durable slingshot.
Thanks a lot. I figured since I have always had mass produced 'wrist rockets' something primitive would be pretty nice. I can work up from this - learning as I go. I do have a question though, for anyone. I learned to harden wood over fire - is that what the microwaving is for? In going through the forum (just joined today) I have read it mentioned a few times and I am curious. Does microwaving harden the wood?
