MDF for slingshot?

    Hi every one, I am new to the forum. I wanted to ask if any body tried to build a slingshot with MDF wood I am not sure if it is the right name in english it's a dense and heavy recycled paper and wood .... I'll try to post a picture. If it is the case let me know I started building one yesterday I tried to brake the fork with my hands I did not make , I don't want have a wooden piece in my eye for my first shot <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" longdesc="2">) thanx for all!

    Yes there's a guy in the Uk (not sure of his name?) that makes and sells slingshots made out of MDF...I think? Go on YouTube and do a search on "Trophy Slingshots".

    MDF, is a low quality processed wood. for the same reason it is very easy to work with. that's the downfall with this material - it is significantly weak <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_exclaim.gif" alt="Exclamation" longdesc="16">

    MDF is not good for slingshots, very weak in comparison to wood and extremely sensible to water.

    I think so, too. <br>Why do you want to use MDF at all.<br>In my opinion multiplex is best non-natural material for slingshots.

    yer mdf is weak, it breaks easily. good for building speakers, cose u got big surfaces there, but not for slingshots.

    I agree, MDF can be a wonderful material for specific purposes, it cuts, drills and even taps precisely making it ideal for templates and things such as side panels which locate mechanisms, even escapements for wooden clocks.<br><br> I think the downfall with it is the very small particle size used, there is very little interlock between particles which means that strength is low and failure will be catastrophic with no tell tale signs such as splitting of grain or excessive flexure.
