A friend of mine likes my recent Howitzer, and gave me a piece of a stalk from some marijuana that was grown recently to try... I wonder how this will go! The worst that can happen I think is that I use it for handles and attach metal forks

Gotta love Canada ( this baby put out 2 pounds of dried purple kush ) :afro:

By ryanwigglesworth at 2011-10-21

By ryanwigglesworth at 2011-10-21

By ryanwigglesworth at 2011-10-21

By ryanwigglesworth at 2011-10-21

By ryanwigglesworth at 2011-10-21

By ryanwigglesworth at 2011-10-21

That's a healthy looking stem you got there Ryan. I think it will work. You could make a light weight shooter, or
you could experiment with pressurized glue saturation. The stems that I've seen that size seemed kind of porous and light. To strengthen it, it could be completely saturated with glue. Find an old pressure cooker at a second-hand store. Pull out the pet-cock stem and replace it with a Schrader valve (tire valve). Then water down some white glue, enough to cover the frame in the pot. Then clamp on the lid and pump up the pressure to about 35 psi, (2.4 bars, atmospheres). The glue will be forced though the pores of the stem turning it into rock solid wood. Dyes can also be impregnated into wood with this method. I have a 6" steel pipe that's 4 ft long with a cap on each end. One end cap has a Schrader valve. I have pumped this up to 120 psi to force stains and dyes into boards. The denser the wood the longer it takes. I bet that Hemp stems would be saturated over night. just a thought?

That's a great thought, its really tough atm, but that would really add to it.... I was just planning on microwaving it?

kyl at what stage of the wood would you do this pressure treatment wet,dry with the bark on or off. I`ve had a lot of wood split when drying it plus don`t own a micro wave.

Ryan you could carve a handy little pipe in to it lol

I have split stems, brewed hemp tea out of them. I love just chewing them also. You have a very nice friend Ryan!

Hey, I voted no! LOL for real! I dont like it cause I have an addictive personality, once and awhile for some perspective though... I may indulge. I just have to be really careful to make sure to do it at the end of a long day, and go to sleep before I come down.

It gives a lot of insight, into life and other things that being sober cannot do generally without a shocking scenario taking place.

Yeah my buddy is a funny guy... If I told you his grandma grew that... would you believe me?

Hey R3dsnail, I have only pressure dyed thin boards when the wood is dry. The hemp stalk is so porous it shouldn't take to long. I have pressure dyed 1/8' - 3/16" white maple boards by leaving them in the tube, under pressure, over night.
I have also used the pressure tube to infuse a hickory ram-rod, for a muzzle loader gun, with kerosene, to "temper" it. I read about the technique in an old book. They would soak a ram-rod in a pipe filled with kerosene for a month to make it flexible and tough but stinky. after the process, you could bend the rod 90 degrees without breaking. I have also used to pressure tube, successfully, to infuse warn linseed oil into a piece of wood. I bet you could impregnate molten wax (paraffin?) into some wood if you kept it warm and under pressure long enough.

No, one of the forks was not secure, so I snapped it off and gave it to the dog as a treat

O plan now on making handles with the remainder when i get the chance... normaly it will work when the fork is well dryed, maybe it is a good idea to seal the ends with superglue.

E-monster55 its not the neighborhood that makes people bad its the people that make the people bad.

And it happens everywhere and every day on the internet people getting insulted by people they have never met. If you put up a topic online some one some where is going to take offence or bite at something they don't understand. Unless you are smart or inhuman enough to ignore them you will continue to feed them your energy and give them the satisfaction they desire.

Oh the red is Shawnr5 response btw =]

Rebanded this up with a full width of theraband green, the color that was meant to be with this slingshot. I think the forks need a forest green color now though

By ryanwigglesworth at 2012-03-17

By ryanwigglesworth at 2012-03-17

By ryanwigglesworth at 2012-03-17

By ryanwigglesworth at 2012-03-17

These bands stay perfectly flat and I like that a lot lol
