I like any kind of experimentation and this experiment looks very interesting! Keep it up, I'm very curious about the result. I plan to try working with micarta as well. It's on my todo list

    First result:
It´s getting harder (the micarta ) think my workshop is too cold.

Second result:
I am surprised that the epoxy makes a really good and shiny finish on the wood

At the weekend I will cut the board to its finally form.

So everybody, please tell me your ideas for this project.

The board is 210 x 110 x 30mm.
I always have a lot of different woods and metals here to add to the slingshot if needed.

Sounds cool so far. I am really curious about final results. I' d like to try it too but i think those products are pretty expensive.

If you want to highlight the colors, you should attach it on a metal core.
The contrast between metal core and the micarta will definitely draw the attention to the beautiful colors of the micarta.
Wood will also work, but the brown color could distract the attention away from the colors...you know what I mean?

It's a pitty, that I don't have the possibility to do such godlike handles.
I could only make them, if someone would send me a piece of micarta.
Nevertheless I wish you good luck zwilie. Practically everyone is waiting for the stunning awesome results.

so you are going to use the whole block of wood including the laminated layer for your slingshot? At first I thought you were just using the wood to press the layers together between layers of waxed or greased paper and wanted to remove a whole sheet of micarta later to use separately.

One suggestion: YOu might try and experiment a little with "Microballons", those are microscopic, superlight hollow little glass beads (they are so fine a jar of them looks like flour). You can easily double or triple the volume of the epoxy resin with them. It makes it cheaper and easier to work with, plus it lends a nice creamy white colour to your resin.

    Hi mhpr262,
I will use the hole block i made.
I wouldn`t use cherry wood just as a clamp

Here with the same layout as for my alu shooter...???

Cant' wait to see it all sanded out! Would look cool reversed too. Micarta on teh outside and wood in the middle.
One thing I hate is the amount of waste there can be with cutting out slingshots. Just seems to painful. Guess you could cut handles out of the waste and make some steel forks to glue in.

    Hi Bert,
this is what I thought.
I got a lot of cherry wood here, so I could laminate the waste to a new board for the next slingshot (or on aluminium frame as handle).

Years ago I made this table from two cherry trees and I still have a lot of this nice wood.
