Hello,<br>I had a natural olive fork left. It was drying for so long that i thought i will have no cracks this time. Delusion!!... I really don' t get what i am doing wrong. I tryed all the advises i got from here but it is always the same... cracks, cracks and cracks. I must be doomed by the Natural Forks Lord <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_scratch.png" alt="scratch" longdesc="33">. I just gave this slingshot some linseed oil for the moment but i will finish it with supaglu soon.<br><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H4EeEMJJhR0/USeNGqOMcaI/AAAAAAAAA4Q/wiBCBC-rpqo/s863/2013-02-20+10.13.08.jpg" border="0" alt=""><br><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ovqM7QF27Z4/USeNIjdm1MI/AAAAAAAAA4Y/WF9B6KrSNkQ/s647/2013-02-22+09.29.42.jpg" border="0" alt=""><br><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-MwWJWczTVo4/USeNIm47h0I/AAAAAAAAA4c/RR51iQ3ElwM/s647/2013-02-22+09.30.06.jpg" border="0" alt=""><br><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-uRqTrCNXbl0/USeNMcR_klI/AAAAAAAAA4o/rC1jfs5IYkE/s647/2013-02-22+09.30.34.jpg" border="0" alt=""><br><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Uf5-Euanyso/USeNOcVOuNI/AAAAAAAAA4w/Q1lzXSNWm1M/s647/2013-02-22+09.30.55.jpg" border="0" alt=""><br><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-WBb6XRZVxGg/USeNOx_2Z-I/AAAAAAAAA44/j3GfK4sFIp4/s647/2013-02-22+09.31.17.jpg" border="0" alt=""><br><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QgoCxHR78nw/USeNQdZDqdI/AAAAAAAAA5A/1ntDDB7QoVE/s863/2013-02-22+09.31.42.jpg" border="0" alt=""><br>Hope it will look better with the CA finish on it <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Rolling Eyes" longdesc="14">

Cool hook!<br>It's wood. It cracks, therefore it is. <br><br>I was nuking some bits of Arbutus( Pacific Madrone) and is got a few checks and splits, but not bad. Got me thinking. Has anyone tried binding the branch before nuking to dry? A full, tight wrap of para cord or cotton cord to provide even compression. Dunno if it would just crack after unwrapped or not. (welds can do this as the tension in the weld remains until the two pieces are unclamped allowed to release tension and bend toward the weld. *useless welding facts..... <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_lol.gif" alt="Laughing" longdesc="7"> ). <br><br>I think cracks filled with epoxy or wood filler of a contrasting color look great. Epoxy can be tinted blue or other bright colors. Turns a crack into a highlight! Light wood can be filled with dark wood filler.

I've worked on robinia playhouses( robinia is fake acasia, it was/is greatest summer job in the world) and we wrapped them in plastic, that was to dry the fresh wood slower so it wouldn't crack, i don't know if pressure had mething to do with that also i don't know if it made any difference.

After debarking it i had to go somewhere and when i came back some hours later there was cracks in it. Maybe because i left the heating on???<br>Next time i will try your idea, Bert. I wont give up until i make a "free of cracks" one... <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_mad.gif" alt="Mad" longdesc="8">

was it inside before debarking? I once made a carving that had no cracks at all but when i brought it in still cracked, but forks that had layn inside for a while aclimatised better or something and didn't crack after i debarked and carved them.

Nice, I like the claw <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" longdesc="2"> It looks like the cracks are only minor, nothing serious, right? Just the lines that are visible on the fork.. It gives the fork another beautiful aspect.
