Pictures take a little time to load.
Greetings fellow engineers and manufacturers,

I am an 18 year old mechanical engineer and I will be showing you one my own rubber powered weapons.
This is build entirely out of wood plus the silver parts which are aluminium and the bolts.
Everything you see is hand-cut,I've used only hand tools apart from an electrical screwdriver, this is why there a few millimiteres cut wrong and badly,i'm no good craftsman, I mostly design things.

The weapon is 106 cm long, Including the stock which is removable,it weights 1960grams with stock attached only and
on a 45 degree angle it can shoot up to 183 meters roughly (calculated with footsteps).
Each rubber side adds 40kg of strength and it can take double the amount,I have tried it.It is too scary, though.

It features an in build cranking mechanism, fully adjustable accessories and the head can rotate 90 degrees
so you can carry this weapon inside a short case.

I know that a scope would make it look better but they're illegal here.
For your own information it only takes 2 magnifying glasses and 1 prism to invert the image to make one.

This is an old project and it is not finished,I have many things to add and improve but I've stopped working on it,I was going to present it to you a month ago.
I built this for the feeling, not for shooting actually, holding it while it is cocked feels like lying to your bed.
Oh and, it does have recoil and a pretty epic sound!

Pictures will be posted under this text so you don't have to scroll everytime you change page in this topic.

Please if you need anything feel free to email me or even add me on facebook.

Best regards,
Stavrentios

It looks very cool! What kind of rubber do you use? It looks like twisted flatbands?

Indeed it is a long flatband folded and twisted.
I could not get my hands on any tubular, and even If I did I like this way more.
You only need to secure the rubber at the front and not where the arrow string is.

Very cool, how long did it take to build you and could you post some pics of the band attachments? I have built a rubber crossbow too and don't trust the attachments since "the accident".
Looks like a rubber powered TAC-15!

    Greetings CEZ,
I hope this helps. As you may notice 1 side is secured with blue and 1 with red rubber.
Blue is the right side while red is the left one.

CEZ, I wish I could do speed measurements.I don't have a chrony to do so
If I ever do I will let you know. I've build more weapons, quite different to this one and I'll surely build more.I'm actually working on other things now.
tokSick, about the rollers, only the inside of it actually rotates, the bigger circles you see are there to prevent the rubber from getting off the roller and generally stabilizing it. The rollers in general give draw length and help the rubber extend.I hope this answers your question.

Regards,
Stavrentios

    Thankzz

  16. Very well done! I do have to ask why the dead space? it looks like you have a few inches of area that could be used to extend the draw. I may be wrong please do tell

    Mike,

I am not sure if you are talking about the "fork" of the weapon or the trigger part so I will go through both.
The fork has no dead space as shown in the picture.
Now about the trigger part, The blue arrow shows roughly how long bigger arrow notches would be.Commercial arrows have big notches.
There is indeed about 1,5cm which is 0.6 inches lost draw length there, that should get fixed to maximize its potential!

T.a.o.w., yeah it takes a little for pictures to load,I added that as my first sentence so people can see, thanks.
