Hey buddy, when I started, I didn't have any money, or materials. But I made some money, I went out to go look for materials, it's not hard. Look, If I can get what I need to make what I want, so can you.

I believe there are trees where you're from. This will get you a natural tree fork. I also believe you have access to a knife to cut it. Office rubber is very cheap. Leather from an old shoe ect. A scissors to cut it and a string to attach it should not be a problem at all.

Hey man! I was in the same boat as you when I started! All you need is a small knife (even a kitchen knife would do; if you don't mind needing to resharpen it) and a tree! Even a coathanger or some old chunks of metal from a construction site can be used... With a little imagination you can make almost anything into a slingshot...

But if you really are that desperate for one I could probably send you one via PayPal shipping for a really small fee (like 10-15 bucks; I'll cover shipping it!) just because I would love to see more people get into slingshots... But like I said, it's probably easier just to make your own! Keep in touch and I'm sure more people than you think will help walk you along your first build!

Tree limbs are free :p, rubber bands can be free also, or very cheap, try a physical fitness place , or ask some1 how is doing physio, they get flat rubber for free from the doctors ... Where do you live? Perhaps some1 is close by tonu and could donate you some rubber or even a slingshot?

U could probably find a branch cut it off to the right size but make sure the forks are not to thin or else the forks could break if you pull to hard. Make sure the frame is a "v" shape. Then find some rubber bands or get them at most stores in the office supply section and get it for a dollar or two. Then you could sand of the old layer of wood with sandpaper to get a smooth finish then make a slit on either side of the forks for the rubber band so the band doesn't slip off and you could make a knot in it to stay firm. Also you could use hard cloth or cheap leather for a pouch. Then u could use marbles from the dollar store or pebbles on the ground as ammo. Hope this will help.

I prefer single pieces of rubber too, like flats and tubes, but chained rubber bands work pretty well (see Mijac's avatar). Individual bands in the chain will break and need to be replaced every so often, but that's not a big deal. You can adjust your power via both the size and number of bands you chain together, as well.

One should be careful doing this. The zinc cast Chinese ones are as dangerous to the shooter as they are to the target.

Honestly, I would say one of the easiest ways to get started is to be creative.
Tree limbs are a good way to start, and all you need for that is a saw to trim them to size and a knife to carve the shape out with. And a good deal of patience.
If you fancy something higher tech, you'll need more materials.
Check around construction sites or home renovations. Often times, you can score small quantities of decent stuff in the dumpsters. Bits of hardwood and multiplex are often around. Sometimes stuff like screws as well.
Rubbers probably the most important thing. If you're really strapped for cash, you could try automotive tire shops or bicycle shops. You may be able to score some innertube that is no longer any use for tires, but still might have some life for a slingshot. It depends on the tube, some are totally useless, some have some snap to them.
Also, depending on how sensitive you are about such things... some sexual health clinics give out free latex condoms... I know its not ideal, but eh, those things are surprisingly stretchy. Joerg even used some in a video or two (As slingshot bands. I don't want to know if there are videos of him using them in other ways). Just get unlubricated if you can!

As has been said natural forks are completely free and easy to find, and also use a kitchen knife to cArve it, wen I started out i used long modeling balloons as bands, there not very powerful but are good for target shooting, they are cheap and easy to find and In my experience band life is good, I get all my leather from second hand/charity stores, I bought an almost new quality leather jacket for 4 euros and I reckon it will make at least 1000 pouches. So if you look and be innovative it is easy to get started :)

How about finding an old paint brush, cut a slot for the forks or I would suggest a natural fork like the others said, for the paintbrush it would need to be large if you are a beginner so you can have a bigger fork width, good luck!

The technical term for this is called, 'Necromancy'. Necromancy is where someone will come along and attempt to breath life into an otherwise long dead thread. The result is, of course, the undead. Thus, these folks who blindly commit necromancy are actually helping to speed up the zombie apocalypse. That's a good thing in my book.

Necromancy indeed! Wonder if we should hijack this ancient corpse of a thread? Maybe then folks would realize that its years old!
