Hi everyone! I am from Montreal, Quebec and I love shooting at people with siege engines! (dont go banning me just yet!! read on).<br><br>I watched a couple of videos of mister Jörg Sprave and I must say that he is way more crazy than I can be! That slingshot cannon is what got me to register to this forum.<br><br>Before I begin with the explanation of the projet which brought me here, I would like to show some pictures of the ballista we built, powered by slingshot bands.<br><img src="http://i45.servimg.com/u/f45/12/35/20/70/balist10.jpg" border="0" alt=""><img src="http://i45.servimg.com/u/f45/12/35/20/70/balist11.jpg" border="0" alt=""><br>It should now be obvious that this ballista shoots safe missiles onto the enemies which are made of small pvc tubing and covered with different kind of foam and tapes. We use these kind of engines in a LARP called Bicolline (around 2000 people) and it is great fun to wreck havoc in the enemy lines. The ballista can shoot up to 100 feet and is safe to shoot an un-armoured bogey at 15 feet.<br><br>Now, it is my goal to build a cannon which will (more-or-less) look like a real one, but will be powered by slingshot bands. I am here hoping some of you could bring some ideas to the project. We currently have some cannons which are powered by propane gas or compressed air... but I would love to have one which would be powered by slingshot bands.<br><br>The performance I am looking for should be similar to our ballista, 100 feet range, safe at 15 feet. It should fire a weighted foam ball (around 3in diameter).<br><br>What I came up with (in my mind), is something that should work a bit like this:<br>(oh.. cannot post link before the 7 days required after registering, but but... i am no spammer!!) Oh well, googling Making-a-Fantastic-Army-Man-Figurine-Cannon should get you to the page.<br><br>This apparatus will then be "hidden" inside another big pvc pipe, which will be mocked up as an historic cannon. I will not be making it like shown on the instructable page, but the general idea is there (pulling the inside chamber from outside of the cylinder with the rubber bands).<br><br>In my idea, I would ready the device by pushing the inner chamber down the pipe with long weighted stick (from the cannon&rsquo;s mouth), which would lock into firing position. I would then load a foam ball inside the pipe, and pull the rope when ready to shoot at an enemy bogey.<br><br>Before i spend time on this project, I would like to know from the experts here, if you think that this reach could be possible with this kind of device? What kind of rubber band should I use? What "locking" device would be best (I would like to shoot it by pulling a rope)? Is another design more suited to my needs?<br><br>(btw I know this thread should be splitted into the several sections of the forum, but hey, it&rsquo;s all here!)<br><br>So that&rsquo;s it... you got another siege engine crazy guy in the house!<br><br>Alex
