After this one, I'm taking a break from variations of the hammerhead.

It's a welded steel core; 1/8" plate for the fork, 1/4" threaded rod for the fork tips, and 3/8" threaded rod for the handle. The wood portions are just birch ply with a distressed green ink coloring and a few clear coats .

Considering I threw this together as an afternoon project, I'd say it's not too bad. Although because of how the handle sits on the core, the steel doesn't sit flush with your hand as the previous steel forked one does.

That' s a nice one again. I love the color, black and green fits perfect. And that fat handle, woaw, i am sure it will fit my hand perfectly. Give it to my baby, hain ha, hain ha... Do the core go all thru the handle? Nice, i mean great work man.

It goes down as far as possible into a tight fitting hole and is epoxied in place. Same goes for the fork tips.

    Another fantastic slingshot!!!!
Don't know if you know, but I'll mention it to be sure. If you're welding on ready rod or using cut bolts that are plated, make sure you are using a good respirator with appropriate filters. North and 3M are best. The fumes are very, very bad! Cadmium poisoning is bad news. A ventilation fan is a good idea too. It will remove the fumes from the environment your welding in. You can get bare metal threaded stock or bolts from local fastener supply places.

    Thanks guys!

Bert, this rod was ready to go. I'm always careful to make sure I'm working with bare metals with no plating, though as I've said, I don't really do much welding. I use a box fan to blow the fumes away before they have a chance.

Glad to hear. To many hobby welders don't know this type of info and pay a price. It also goes for alum. and, more recently stainless has been added to the respirator needed list.
I just sleep better if I mention it, just in case.

You nailed it again, Bert. If anybody uses heat on any metal, and pre-cleans with brake cleaner, then the following article is essential reading. This article is slowly making its rounds on welding and mechanic sites. Makes for eye-opening reading. I've since switched to organic cleaners for anything metal.

brewracingframes dot com /id75.htm

I think I'd really enjoy shooting a Green Hornet. There's some really clever architecture going on in there.

bnorman
