I've recently discovered a great source for exotic hardwoods to make your slingshots from. Do a google search for 'free hardwood samples'. This will invariably bring up results for wood flooring suppliers that are more than willing to send a handful of samples. They do ask for a phone number and email, but I keep an extra email address for just such an occasion and none of them have ever called me. Most offer free shipping and don't even ask for a credit card up front.

I've collected samples of all manner of wood. Teak, purpleheart, black walnut, limba korrina, birdseye maple... lots of great specimens that will be made into wicked slingshots soon.

Give it a try!

Here is the result of about two hours of google searches and order forms:

From three sources I gathered samples of about 30 different hardwoods. I ordered them this time last week and they're already here. I've got several Acacia, Brazillian Cherry, Teak, Tigerwood, Zebrawood, Bamboo and Eucalyptus to name a few. Some more Acacia and a piece of Purple Heart should be here in a few days.

And as it turns out, I'm not really scamming them. My wife and I decided to do our kitchen floors in Bamboo.

The links to the free wood are US only, but there is sure to be wood flooring manufacturers in Belgium that offer similar samples.
I tried finding free sources for you in Belgium, but Google keeps giving me Belgium Wisconsin here in the states. The last link is to a site that ships worldwide, I believe, but it's not free, unfortunately.

Are these actual wood samples? I went to Home depot and Lowe's and all of their samples are veneer on composite or plywood,

Yes, all hardwood. Just be sure that when you're selecting samples, choose them from the hardwood category and not one for laminates. I'm working on one right now that is a pocket predator style with a black walnut base with brazillian cherry, teak and tigerwood stripes, all from the samples.

It varies. The sample's listing usually give you the width, some have multiple widths to choose from, so pay close attention to the listing. The average is 4", but I have a few samples that are 5 and 6".

I personally would make the hardwood the face and back of the slingshot with the multiplex core. i just love how those types look
