I was having a fun shooting to this can with my new Fang
[IMG]
and suddenly I had a fork hit (below the white stain of glue for repair)
initially I didn't noticed nothing abnormal ... BUT when I removed the bands, noticed a tearing inner band in the middle of it (never happened to me before in that place)
it happens that that the teared side under the same load stretched 5cm more than the good side ... a nasty condition of unsymmetrical forces ...
my lesson ... always inspect your bands while shooting ...
now my Fang will be out of service for a while ...

MaddyMax, the problem is that was the inner band and didn't see it ... I always stop when first tearing signs appears (always happened to me close the pouch ties) ... and a band tearing in the middle is even more nasty ... unfortunate ...

i wonder what the reason was.

was the fork smooth enough? were you wearing glasses? perhaps the bands touched a spectacle frame ...?

never happened to me either with tapered bands that they tear in the middle.

No glasses ... in my beginnings it happened to me, it was scary because the steel ball crushed the glass fortunately I closed the eye instinctively just in time ... no more glasses from then ... this was a sudden failure ... it was shooting just good until prior shoot ... I told you about a fork hit I had in the night ... that was a bad hammer grip fault ... the Fang doesn't allow you a bad grip ...

Arturo, don't you shoot rods? That looks a little like a cut, maybe you hit the fork "through" the rubber?

it does look like a cut. that happened to me with a sharp end on my slingshot. but its weird that it was one of the middle bands. maybe the rubber was damaged before or during you were cutting them into bands?

yes I was shooting rods (more nasty fork hits than balls) I suspected the same, it did only a small cut/scratch I guess a plain hit with a rod would result in much more damage, but the cause was that teared band = unsymmetrical forces that slipped the rod out of the pouch ...

    Hello Arturo,
I was thinking the same as the others about shooting rods... If the edges are not smooth enough i think it could make a cut in your bands. Hope Fanggie will heal soon.

Strange, when I notice a tear in my band I keep shooting it until it breaks, for the very last few shots the band literally hangs by a thread. Never had a fork hit yet ... maybe you inadvertently canted the frame a little bit.

@tokSick I believe in CEZ theory as most plausible ... in fact was the band that partially "enveloped"the rod cushioned the impact, otherwise the damage I believe would be even nastier ... I've verified that the forces with that tear in that place (middle of the band) are enough different to slip the ammo out of the pouch ... that rods were smoothed, fired hundred of times with several band sets without any problem ... first time I have a band collapsing in the middle ...
@mhpr262 ... tearing close the pouch not produce that big force difference between bands because in tapered bands this region is almost rigid enough time to the ammo gain inertia=straight fly ... but when the tear is at the middle (in the elastic region) a very different story happens ... the ammo start gaining speed out of trajectory from the very beginning ...
