There are two things that we know will flatten the trajectory of a spherical projectile.

1. Dimples. Like those found on golf balls. Probably best molded in during production. For use with and without:

2. Hop up. Like those found on air soft guns. I believe a hop up device would need the sphere to pass through at least a length of barrel with a piece of rubber like material on top to slightly retard the projectile, inducing backspin.

I don't have the talent to make a practical test that would combine these "technologies" but sure would like to see someone experiment with them using material that would make efficient slingshot projectiles. Probably metal, maybe glass for the large quantity production necessary to supercharge the field and supply millions of new slingshot adherents.
