Ok guys, I just finished slingshot number 2. This started as a natural Black Birch fork that I cut in my yard. I posted some before pics in another thread, but for those of you who missed it, I'll post before and after photos here. Please be brutally honest. I'm brand new to the hobby, so I'm trying to learn and improve.

This is the original fork:

This is it with the bark stripped off before drying:

This is it after rough shaping and before sanding and finishing:

And here are a few angles of the final product after a long bath in boiled linseed oil and a few coats of carnauba wax. I'm really pleased with how the grain came out. The pics don't do it justice. I wish my camera was better.

My first one was crap, the last ones are not crap but not as good looking than yours. You made a real nice slingshot... i am not " brutally" honest, just saying what i think is true. Keep going mate.

Thanks guys. I just banded it up for the first time with double TBB for some light target shooting, and I'm slaughtering a Red Bull can at 30 ft. in my basement. This is a shooter for sure. I wish I could try it outside, but it's too damn cold here! lol

You are off to a very good start. Nice balance to the forks, The crutch of the fork is very well worked. A good piece, well done.

Failed perception is when you have a gun, I have a slingshot and you think you are the only one that is armed.

Nice job! It looks very evenly shaped, that is the hardest part!

Thanks, it got dark like that all on its own in the oil bath. I was kind of surprised at how much that brought out the natural colors and grain.

That's what I love about slingshots making. To turn something that ugly like at the first pic to the beauty. Very nice change of colors.

This looks really nice and well executed. Maybe I would have left it a little more natural with less material removed, but that is really just a matter of taste personal and personal preference.

That's a good point. I debated with myself over whether to try to preserve and artistically interpret the natural shape or just make it into what I wanted. I decided that I'm not skilled or artistic to any great degree, so I just made it into the shape I had in my mind. Hopefully, with more practice, my efforts will become more refined. I appreciate the constructive criticism. That's what I'm looking for.
