Hey Failure,

Do you know anything about your katana? For instance, was it carried by an officer or an nco, (non-commissioned officer). Have you removed the handle to see who made it and if it was made just for WWII or was it an heirloom and very old. There should be a bamboo pin holding the handle on. Remember, though, you wiil need someone who reads and speaks Japanese to translate what's there.

Sorry to let you down Howard, this is just a cheap-o replica. The original sword was made by japanese prisoners and belonged to the emperor, I think his name was... Hirohito, maybe? If you buy a replica like this in new ship-shape, its 195€, I got mine at a second-hand store for less than a thenth of the price. It was a bit rusty tough, but my friend and I fixed it. It got signs on the side of the blade, meaning "Heavenly Emperor". On the other side, the serial number 46127, wich is the same at all the replicas.

To own a real, antique, katana is, and will for ever be, a dream. For everyday destruction/cutting/splitting this one does great, tough!

I'd love to own a real one, but none would be in my price range, if I could find one that' s not in a collection. A friend of mine knows quite a lot about katanas and told me that the older ones had a plain wood saya, (scabbard) and plain handle. Wish I could remember what handle was in Japanese. Please don't try to sharpen it! That take away from what value it has now.

  8. Nice collection Failure, when i have more than my couple shooters I will have to post pics too. I'll include my bows, throwing stars, all that cool stuff too. Sadly I no longer have my katana (I got it for a little over 200 bucks but it was hand made and quite lovely), I'm sure you would have liked it.

  10. I have a couple pairs of 'chucks, they are silly easy to make. 3 feet of dowel (oak, cut into 2 18 inch lengths) 2 eye screws and a few inches of chain. Presto, Bruce lee's yoyo.

I roll mags, put some holes, use some tape to wrap it and a piece of string... perfect for training. If you hands or arms( or brain) mess up somehow and you hit yourself in the face it' s not a big deal. I now use a metal one but i have to admit, i am not so confident than with a home made mag one.

  13. Oh yes, magazines or "boffer style" (plastic pipe with foam padding) work better for practice. Wood can cause serious injuries (I feel your pain Arturo) let alone metal (you're insane tokSick lol). I haven't really practiced much with my chucks, I just have them. I've played with them a bit but I prefer Tongfar, or Tonfa. No chains, thet are like paired nightsticks.

    Tonfa' s are great!! That' s something on my " to-do" .
I never tried it but i learn fast if i like what i try to learn..

  15. I can upload an easy pic that will show you how to make one. Or you can go youtube them, listen to a couple of the people talk (assuming you find one who is not a complete fool of course) in their vids and they should explain the dimension. (like the body (long part, and probably propperly called something else lol) whould extend a couple inches past your knuckles and a couple inches past your elbow. The handle size and style is varied. If I can find my old pair I may upload a video of my playing with them, depends on what kind of shape they are in after being stored and when I have a day I'm not too sore from the weather.

I will check that on youtube for mesurements. About the material i want to use... plywood of course and maybe fill some parts with lead,... You know what i mean?

  17. I use hardwood dowels or dried tree limbs (easier to work since they are round as is) and of course you MUST make them heavier, more weight = better bashing device. You must keep the halves somewhat ballenced though, too much to one side or the other and the tonfa don't spin and move as smootly or as well.
