Hi Ya'll,

I noticed that most of the people that practice slingshot live in wooded areas.

In Israel we have all kind of climates. for example i live next to the sea, an area which has hot summers, pleasant spring and fall, and cool, rainy winters. even so, I really like the desert.

The Negev desert is 55% of our country's land . You understand that my options are limited, yet from the Golan heights to my area i have lots of wooded grounds to hike in. still i like the desert more.

this week I'm accompanying my students to their yearly trip. Yes, we're going to the Negev.

Hopefully they're old enough not to carry any slingshots for pranking around .

I guess today its all about alcohol

So, how many here has a desert experience (something you experienced i mean) to sheer?

by the way Makhtesh Ramon is one of my favorite sites In the Negev desert :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makhtesh_Ramon

I don't have much in the way of experience in deserts, only one really- my dad is a naval architect, and was on a project building an FPSO in Abu Dhabi a couple of years back, so I got out there a few times (without a slingshot, its only since then I've 'found the love' again lol) it was a nice enough, but it seemed a very desolate place, it was a bit more green in the mangroves around the delta there, but once you got inland it was like you see in the films, a sea of dunes!

makhtesh ramon looks a lot nicer, more diverse- there's more than just sand there, but it still doesn't look like the kind of place I'd like to get lost lol, but I'm used to all the rain over here in wales I guess

I'm not keen on desert. It's one of the few climates that I can't save my own bacon in by my own resources and ingenuity and there's not much to shoot at. Just my preference.

Ha! The man who sang that song, Dan Peek, lived less than an hour away from me. He passed away a few months ago.

I live in Jackson, Missouri, just southeast of his hometown. Glad to see he is still remembered worldwide!

Wow... a small world indeed! I always liked the song. Sorry to hear that this great artist passed away.

He is out of the rain now, for ever. That is precisely the way I would like to remember him. Ride on, Dan!

I'm a fourth generation Arizonan and love the desert. Cactus, snakes, lizards, road runners and 110+ degree weather are all good as far as I'm concerned. It's supposed to be in the 50's and 60's this week here and that means I have to dig out my jacket.
