dankung panther maximum draw weight

Discussion in 'General Slingshot Discussions' started by beaverman, Jan 2, 2013.

  1. I shoot 100 and 120 pound bows often but that draw on a slingshot is "out of the question" from what Joerg and the others have told me. I am still working on a slingbow with speargun rubber but we'll see how that goes. A handheld slingshot at that draw is deffinatly something I would like to see. (Not calling you a liar but I am noticably smaller than Joerg and if he says no go it's probably the truth)

full size thera band gold, two per side. 40 pounds per band at 250% elongation( goin by resistance chart on slingshot forum) so i would guess 160 pound draw weight. is that right?

100 pounds is just huge overkill. Even with heavy ammo, it wouldn't shoot any faster than 50 pounds would. Even 50 is too much. It just doesn't make any sense.

  7. Actually a pic of the bands (most people here know enough to afirm the weight of draw on sight of the bands) and a pic of you drawing them would solve all arguments for the most part. Upload away plz!

I have no reason to distrust beaverman. I am fairly strong, but by no means am I the strongest guy in the world. If a serious weightlifter or powerlifter would get into slingshots, I am very sure I'd be outperformed in no time.

250% elongation would not get you the best shot energy, though. 450% would, simply because the acceleration phase is longer. Thera Band Gold (the old formula) has 18 kg at 450% elongation (when it is stretched to 5,5 times the relaxed length). Two full strips per side would get you 158 lb.

Also the draw length is very important. My experience is that draw weight and length can - as a rough estimation - be exchanged. Means, 80 cm draw at 100 lb will bring you about the same energy as 160 cm draw at 50 lb.

It is far, far easier to draw a 100 lb slingshot from 14,5 cm to 80 cm than a 50 lb slingshot from 29 cm to 160 cm, simply because the 80 cm draw can be done with the biceps and the lat. Anything beyond your head, you pretty much have to do it with your triceps and - mostly - your neck+shoulder muscles.

Finally, let us not forget that big ammo can be gripped a whole lot better than small ammo. The grip is one of the serious limitations when shooting slingshots. That is why people can usually draw a much heavier bow than a slingshot.

So as I said, 100 lb bands aren't impossible. Having said that, photos (or better, a video) would be nice...

I'll do the Panther test this weekend.

maybe he can pull it on a machine (weight lifting) but with a slingshot you pull against the other hand
but a vid would help to understand everything
