Very nice, you always use yacht varnish right? Any tips? I'm just experimenting with different kinds of finishes lately and wondering how long it takes you to achieve yours, how many layers do you usually put on, how long does it take to dry and do you sand in between?

I'm lazy... I just tie a bit of fishing line on, hand paint the varnish, hang it up to dry, let first coat dry, give another coat, let dry, last coat and leave for 24 hours to harden a bit. Where the fishing line was attached, I just give a quick finish of varnish over. I don't sand in between, the finish isn't perfect but I'm happy with results. After a few weeks, toughens up pretty hard! I've previously done 6 coats on 'thirsty' wood but 3 coats is normally enough.

Nice work, especially on those pins (brass?). <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" longdesc="6"> Are they just epoxied in or did you peen the ends and then smooth them out?
