I can't find any lead ammo anywhere. Buying online seems like a pain in the ass, cause i don't have any money in paypal and it takes weeks for it to transfer from my bank.. Anybody know what to do? does it make sense to buy shotgun shells with lead balls inside?

I read a horror story about melting shotgun shot.. I wouldn't advise it if that is what you planned. Just asking, but why lead? I have had much luck with spent steel ball bearings, certain factories go through them heavily, and if you get in good with the technicians you can get them to save you buckets full, just may have to grind them out of their casings like I have to.

hmm good idea.. i need to find out where to get spent ball bearings then.. lead seems ideal for hunting because of its stopping power, but steel will do just as good for what i am hunting. so far i have not been able to find local ball bearings but i guess i will have to look into it some more.

They would probably hit you hard with shipping if you were just going to buy lead balls online. Have you considered casting? I may pick that up if I ever decide to cast my own black powder rifle bullets.

Go to a gun shop ... should be several in Winnipeg. Speer and other companies used to sell various caliber lead balls for the black powder crowd. If no luck there, check in with a local black powder group. Those guys will be casting their own bullets, and no doubt some of them will be casting balls. Probably they would be happy to sell you some.

Cheers ..... Charles

Fishing sinkers should be easy to get. Have you tried steel hex nuts. They're surprisingly accurate and often really cheap.

Kyl good tip. Lead sinkers come in various shapes. You can also hammer the sinkers into the hex nuts to add weight. It works really well I have a bunch.
