    Hi guys,
I would like to have some advice.
My next project would be a sniper rifle. What would be the best concept?

    Barrel/free flying ?
    what trigger system?
    bands or tubes?
    what kind of ammo?

    Any advice is welcome.

    Cheers,

    Adrian.

Buy an accurised rifle. Slingshots are awesome, but even the best peter out around 130 yds. Latex has its limits.

    Thanks,

Where I live (the Netherlands), a rifle will bring me to jail...

I'm thinking about 40/50 yards accuracy. That should be possible imho.

    Cheers,

    Adrian.

In the Netherlands, AFAIK even a slingshot might bring you into trouble.

40 yards is already very far for a rubber powered weapon. Keep in mind rubber looses power when the bands cool, so there is one more factor to be compensated besides distance and windage - time.

The best concept is a steel ball shooter without a barrel (free flight). The release is most important. My sniper rifle uses two rollers that turn on ball bearings to clamp in the pouch. This gives you a very reproduceable release.

Would steel balls be better than lead or tungsten? The additional weight from the heavier ammo would let him use more rubber, which shouldn't be a problem on the rifle style design A's shown on other threads. Especially if he adds a winch to pull back the rubber. The mechanical release on his current sling rifle should be able to hold significant weight and eliminate the problems of hand hits or bandslap.

I've made many different types of slingrifles and my favorite two types are below.

Both are extremely inexpensive and easy to make.... and can be made from a variety of materials. The first one can be literally as accurate as a regular rifle at short ranges and the second one is just real easy to make with almost no tools...

Predator, what does "non sine praeda" translate to? Uncle Google fails me at the moment.

Maybe you could add rifling to the barrel and make the world's first true slingshot rifle! Imagine the accuracy you would get!

You could also make it so that the bullet is not in the actual barrel until the gun is fired. That way, you could use a system of mirrors that let you aim through the barrel instead of aiming from on top of it.
