After watching the video of the Ballistic Gelatin impact videos I was wondering if this material would make a good catch box. You could set it up have your targets in front of it and fire away. The gelatin would catch all the missed shots and the ones that when through the target. Then, I assume, you could get the shots out and melt the stuff down again. Thoughts?

I wasn't aware you could melt it down and re-use?

I prefer a blanket on an angle though personally.

I know it is a crazy idea but just putting it out there !! If you had alot of time and alot of ammo I guess it would be beneficial. I like to think outside the box ALL the time! :alien:

The only issue is that the stuff decomposes just like dead flesh, including the smell. 2 days in the summer, 2 weeks in the winter is the maximum.

Thanks for the response to a rather nutty idea. The other idea I had was a catch box that returned the ammo to you, kind of like at a bowling alley or when using a pool table. That was my vision for my basement set up so I could shoot and the ammo would roll down a track towards me then into a collection bucket.

Have you come up with any catchbox inventions like this?

The idea of returning the ammo to you is a good concept but that is if you really have a permanent place for it. Plus it's not that nessisary because every once in a while you would have to go and reset your target so you can retrieve tha balls then. So you could just have an extraction system that kept the balls at the catch box. My catch box is a rubbermaid bin with 2 towels folded up and screwd through the top of the box, through the towels and into a strip of wood, I have 2 layers of this. Make this new one 3 days ago and the towels are already starting to fall apart! Also has an extraction system but it's not that great. i just hang the box on my shed. But I hope to make a nice wood box with a stand and a better extraction system.
