I recently just made my first every slingshot and I banded it up with tubular bands. Before I had a store bought slingshot that had a lot higher forks and I did not get any hand slaps by the rubber but the new one I built is a moorhammer rambone hybrid and it has very low forks and I am getting finger slapped every shot. It gets quite painful after the second shot.

How do I avoid these hand/finger slaps?

    Heavier ammo or lighter bands

Scooby is right, too much band for your ammo. Until you have your ideal band/ammo match, even a dollar store workglove will protect you from bandslap.

Depending on the slingshot, a slight change in how you grip it or flip it can make a big difference, but yeah, the guys are right on.
