My friend and neighbor Finn lost a beloved Redbud tree some time ago and kindly gave me some forks. I took the best one and made him this. I wanted to show as much of the original wood as possible but also some bling. a bacote cap with a brass pin I just removed what wasn't needed and left what felt good using just files and sandpaper and a vice mounted on a milk crate. Sanded to 320 because I wanted to feel the grain. Three coats of BLO homemade beeswax then six coats of Tru-oil with 0000 steel wool in between. Also gave him three extra TG bands I made too. I concentrated on a smooth epoxy line(G-flex) and final finish. A huge thanks to Master Flipgun for the tips and instruction on finishing! In return my friend gave/traded me some fly-fishing flies he tied and I mean a lot that I will show next. He is a master in his art! Thanks for looking.

    And heres what I got...

I really hope the pictures show the quality of this craftsmanship. He has been tying for fifty years and it shows. There must be seventy flies here! Thank you very much Finn my friend!!

Don"t get me wrong...That shooter you made is world class, and better than anything I will ever make. But the knowledge behind the art of tying flies is incredible. You have to have the technical skills to make it look right, and pretty much be an entomologist, as well. You got the better end of the deal. Great score!

bigdh, GunGuy thank you for the kind words I learned a lot from this one with Flipguns help. Diaboloslinger you are so correct. He explained what larval stage many flies were, how they moved in the water how and when to fish them etc. I wish I had a recording. I was humbled.
