I started my second homemade slingshot, inspired by the moorhammer by Joerg I believe. Made out of the same plank of 2inch thick black walnut as my first SS. Will update after work tomorrow, I'm starting a new job at a psychiatric hospital! So no take your slingshot to work for me hehe. My progress:

Thanks it is really nice to work with, this walnut looks a little lighter than other walnuts I've worked with, it was outside for a few years before I got it. Brazil has its fair share of fine lumber though!

Beautiful, I love black walnut, but it is so hard to come by! This is going to be a very nice shooter!

    Good Start.
Please be very careful with the slim parts. This is just a boardcut, a forkhit might break them.
To get a solid result you should cross the grains or use some kind of core.

Thanks guys, I'm not sure if the grains will work out or not, but this plank is odd. The grains are not really straight, they kind of curve around and looking straight down on the ss from above reveals round growth rings like the start of a branch or something. I'm considering making a brake bleeder/vacuum jar and using wood stabilizer if the final rough shape doesn't seem strong enough. I'll go rustle up some cats rigth now!

About the saw, I have pretty basic tools, jig saw, circ saw, various hand saws, but no jig saw blade is long enough and the circular is only good for cross cuts anyway. If you're thinking using a hand coping saw on this plank is faster than my 30$ forstner bit, I beg to differ. Besides, this way wastes very little wood, I only have one board, and it's probably 200 years old.

Some updates, no real plan - just remove dust until it feels good.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I feel bad. I wanted to warn you this would happen, but I also know that experience is the best teacher. Use the rest of that walnut as layers for a laminated frame.

Maybe you should try a brazilian wood after all.....
you can use some multiplex in the core and add tha walnut.

Boy I am terribly sorry to see that happen but it is very good info for me to be able to learn from others. Sounds like these two guys above me know what they are talking about. Good luck and if you do make some w/ the multiplex, I hope you show them here!

What a pity, but maybe you were lucky that broke before finishing it ... it could broke while shooting, that could have being very dangerous ...
