Narural Fork, Cracks, good to go or Trash?

    hello

    I´m in the process of making my first Natural slingshot.
    The wood is Dry, but it got some cracks fromdrying...


    I have attached two picsfrom the cracks, hope you can helpme, i am unsure
    if the Fork is good or trash....

    Yes, no problem there, those cracks look like they are only superficial.
    Cracks in natural forks usually don't compromise stability, because they only go to the core and stop there.
    Doing the vise-test with the finished product is always a good idea though.

    If you want to get rid of the cracks for aesthetic reasons, there are many options.
    They can be filled with glues like epoxy or wood glue and powders like sawdust, chalk, pigments or even crushed gemstones.

    My preferred method is putting a drop of thin super glue (Cyanoacrylate or CA for short) into the crack, the cheap kind from the dollar store. Then I sand over the crack with a medium coarse sandpaper like 120 grit, so the dust collects in the wet glue. The glue sets up very quickly that way. After 2 or 3 repetitions most cracks are closed.

    Cracks add character. That fork is gonna be just fine. Have fun with it!

    The Slingshot is finished, need one for a Friend on Thursday, so i had to Rush through the Build.
    She is Anything but a beauty .-)

    After trimming the cherry wood Fork, the cracks where gone.
